Several engineers who previously worked at OpenAI and Google are now employed by the new company, which goes by the name of xAI. In the past, Mr Musk has expressed his opinion that AI advancements should be put on hold and that the industry requires regulation.
He claimed that the startup’s goal was to “understand reality.” It is unclear how much money the organization has, what its precise goals are, or what kind of artificial intelligence the business wants to concentrate on.
xAI’s Mission to “Understand Reality”
According to the company’s website on new business idea, xAI’s mission is to “understand the true nature of the universe.” A Twitter Spaces chat that the new company will host on Friday might provide more information about its objectives.
One of the early supporters of OpenAI, which later gave birth to the widely accepted large language model ChatGPT, was Elon Musk. ChatGPT has gained popularity for uses like helping students with their homework, though it has occasionally generated controversy.
However, the billionaire’s bond with the business has deteriorated. For having a liberal bias, he has criticized ChatGPT. In February, Mr Musk tweeted, “TruthGPT is what we need,” referring to his current company startup. He also takes issue with the management of ChatGPT and its close association with Microsoft.
Elon Musk, in a recent interview with CNBC, discussed the transformation of a for-profit, closed-source entity into a nonprofit, open-source model. This shift underscores a broader conversation about the direction and ethics of AI development. Musk’s concerns regarding AI safety are well-documented, with his recent participation in an open letter advocating for a pause in “Giant AI Experiments,” signed by over 33,000 individuals. His apprehension about AI’s safety traces back over a decade, as he highlighted in a conversation with the BBC in April. This development within the tech industry adds another layer to ongoing discussions surrounding AI governance and responsible innovation in the business news landscape.
To ensure that AI does not endanger the public, he said, a regulatory body should be established to monitor it. Due to the data that AI companies use to train chatbots—software that learns how people interact by gathering reams of information from numerous sources to fuel its knowledge and interaction styles—Mr. Musk has also aimed at these businesses.
The billionaire thinks Twitter should receive fair compensation because huge amounts of its data are scraped from the website.
Shonda Rhimes, the creator and star of shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Bridgerton, together with models Gigi Hadid and Stephen Fry, the actor and comedian, all left the service in protest after Mr. Musk, in a deal worth billions, purchased the microblogging platform.
